Sjaddo means seed in Lule Sámi and symbolizes growth, development, and presence. The performance begins with the Sámi creation story, in which the reindeer’s heart becomes the rhythm of the earth—a reminder that we can always find our way back by listening to nature. Flowing through the stage is the Pärl River (Pärlälven), Jokkmokk’s free-flowing and unregulated river, symbolizing the strength and freedom that shape both nature and culture.
The performance highlights Lule Sámi culture through language, design, and storytelling. Ten-year-old students from the Sámi School in Jokkmokk have contributed poetry in Lule Sámi about what it is like to grow up in Sápmi. Through dance, poetry, and several Lule Sámi artistic voices, a powerful and inspiring work is created that encourages children and young people to explore their languages, stories, and cultural roots.
